Marin County’s natural beauty and outdoor living have always been a big draw for visitors and residents. Yet, over the past 150 years, there are more compelling reasons why so many people end up in Marin.

For decades, Marvelous Marin marketed the county as Idyllic and tranquil. In addition, train and ferry transportation made it convenient for commuters and those seeking outdoor activities. Yet, significant events are also responsible for people flocking to Marin including the 1906 Earthquake and Fire, persecution, WWII, dairy/ranching opportunities and incarceration.
